I've listened to Bach on and off since I was 20, 16 yrs ago. Now I listen to particular works repetedly over periods of a few months. I absorb all I can from them, then move on to something else.
I just finished listenings of The Six Partitas, as performed by Trevor Pinnock on hpsd. During that time I started to gain interest in the music of the English alists (Byrd, Bull, Farnaby, etc). Then I came across Bach's English Suites through a movie I saw. The alists made for a nice transition for my new foray into the English Suites.
Maybe it takes me so long to soak it all up because I'm musically ignorant. But it's a nice journey.
Dose anyone else out there give much thought to your own listening patterns?
