Schütz was born in 1585 in Thüringen, the center of Germany, in a village called Bad Köstritz. His Father was an owner of a restaurant and so Heinrich Schütz also became a merchand. The most famous pieces of his music are the cantiones sacrae as well as the Geistliche Lieder, which were written out of joy over the end of the 30 year long war, which ended in 1648. Two Friends of him were Schein and Scheidt. The latter one died in 1630, but was only two years younger than Schütz. So Schütz wrote a requiem for him.
I hope this little information servers you.
