: I would like to know about the popularity (if at all) of Mahler in England arround 1913-1914. Anybody knows??? Where could I get this information?

its my impression that Mahler was singularly unpopular in England during the first world unpleasantness. Remember that English orchestras didn't quit get the hang of performing Brahms 'til the 1930's. If that is true, and it seems to be, how much more problematical would be the performance of the music of Mahler?

All of the ambiguty of the romantic german style was elequently illuminated by Paul Hindmith in his masterpiece, Mathis Der Gustave Mahler..and on and on...
