hello all you good Mahler buff types,
If you're interested in the 10th Mahler, you may really want to check out a new recording of the Clinton Carpenter performing version that has just recently issed by Delos International. You can order it directly from the web site. Andrew Litton leads the Dallas Symphony, and both the orechestral execution and sound quality are close to spectacular (this is an incredibly difficult score to play).
If you're not familiar with the Carpenter, it's much more filled out than the Deryck Cooke version. At times, Carpenter oversteps his boundaries, and walks into the sound world of Alban Berg - particularly that of "Wozzeck", and the "Three Pieces for Orchestra". Yet, it's far more "entertaining" (a friend of mine coined that) than Cooke, and feels much more like a true completion. If you like the 10th symphony, give it a whirl. It won't set you back too far financially either. In way of comparison, I think that this is much, much better than the recent Naxos recording of the Joseph Wheeler completion.
