Whoever said that ¨Mathis der Maler¨ has anything to do with Gustav Mahler is making a mistake.
¨Mathis der Maler¨(Matthias the painter) is a suite extracted by Paul Hindemith from his own opera about the life of Matthias Grunewald, a medieval artist. It was first performed ib 1934 under Furtwangler but had to be shelved for a while, due to misunderstanding with the regime.
So please, keep Gustav Mahler out of this!
