Several keyboard works have been published as by Palestrina, but today, they are not considered authentic. The New Grove Dict. 6th Ed lists: Esercizi XI sopra la scala a 4; and Ricercari VIII
sopra li toni, a 4; as "doubtful".
Apel. The History of Keyboard Music to 1700. Reports (pg 790): Eight ricercars that earlier authors generally ascribed to ...Palestrina ... are today held to be anonymous....they are not included in the list of works. Moreover, they are not genuine organ compositions but ensemble ricercars.
