Dear Scott: this may be late, but I do know a bit
about the motet. It was composed for the tract
for Easter vigil( Holy Saturday, evening: at my
church, All Saints' Episcopal, Fort Worth, TX,
the Vigil begins at 8:00 PM, and includes kindling
a new fire for the Paschal Candle, lots of canticles,
and baptisms.A long service, but beautiful. And incense, too.
Acccording to the edition I have before me, the motet
was sung during the procession before the blessing
of the baptismal font. Thus the symbolism of the text
"As the hart desires after the water-fount, as my soul desires after Thee, O God.
my high school choir is rehearsing the motet now for choral
festival performance next week.. Regards, Carl W.
Smith, Ph.D.

Does anyone have any information on the motet Sicut Cervus? When it was written, for what reason, anything significat about the piece? If so please let me know. Thanks!
