I must start with a confession. I have only heard one of Gabrielli's compositions: Motet, O Magnus Mysterium. Even so, I was greatly impressed and want to know more. I have started to conduct a search for the score of this piece for two reasons. Firstly, I liked the piece very much and I am natuaraly curious as to how the harmony is structured. Secondly, I had an idea that the piece could be re-arranged for more conventional instrumentation. It was written for organ continuo and polychoral SATB choirs and trumpets. I would relish the idea of arranging this for modern ensemble such as a scaled-down wind-band. Although I am sceptical about getting any help (there seem to be many unanswered questions on these pages) but I shall persevere. I would be delighted to engage in further conversation on this subject.

Gordon Paton.
