: The cellosonata is the last work that Chopin puplished. It was composed for August Franchomme, the cellist,in 1845-1846.It has been neglected for long, but nowadays it is performed more frequantly. You can see ,that in this work Chopin was exploring a new style, and his chromaticism in this rather intellectual work anticipates Wagners Tristan.Chopin himself apparently kept this work in high regard and wished it to be played to him shortly before he ped away.It is Chopins deepest work, autumlike and nostalgic and one can see ,that Rachmaninov was inspired by Chopins cellosonata when writing his own, also in g-minor(po.19)
