Good to see you back, Jeremy. I'm sorry to say I have no definitive answer for you, although I felt compelled to respond, as I too had an opportunity to chat with Arnaldo about this very same fantasy. That Naxos recording is a stunning piece of work. I wish Cohen had been engaged for the entire series. But as I understand it, he is naturally s u s p i c i o u s of recordings.
You might be amused to know, he at first somehow came to the conclusion that I too had been performing it. This caused him to become very enthusiastic, and I hated to burst his bubble. Clearly, he loves this particular fantasy and wishes it were better known.
I also spoke to Lang Lang, who didn't understand me much better, and whom I suspect doesn't really grasp the more elevated (as opposed to the showy) side of Liszt. Just the same, I pushed him to try and include more of his music in his recordings. Just for exposure's sake!
P.S. This entire KDH network has become highly unpermissive of late, as far as language is concerned. It is, after all, the Age of Bush, in all its glorious hypocrisy. One is tempted to echo the vice president. "Go eff yourselves!"
P.P.S. It wouldn't allow the "s p i c" in "s u s p i c i o u s." Oh brother. Somebody give me an Arab I can s e x u a l l y degrade.
