: : : : Is Couperin's port to remain so forlorn and deserted?

: : : : He was a great composer. His harpsichord music ranks with the best, as do his orchestral compositions.

: : : : One of my favorite pieces of his is "Les Bergeries"(The sheep-Pens). There is an arrangement by Robert De Visee for theorbo, that totally glides!

: : : Reusner

: : I don't know much Couperin by I'm absolutely n away by "Les Barricades Mysterieuses" which a harpsichordist friend played for me. It's especially wonderful when register changes are used!

: I was struck by your comments and want to say that I had the same experience with "Les Barricades Mysterieuses"--a friend played it for me several times on a harpsichord, back in 1996. It so enchanted me that the last time, waiting for the car that was to take me to the airport, I left my plane ticket on the living-room table and ended up having to buy a replacement ticket. It's nice to know somebody else feels the same way about this piece.

You might want to also check out Parkening's arrangement for the guitar, very nice it is.
