: : : Is Couperin's port to remain so forlorn and deserted?
: : : He was a great composer. His harpsichord music ranks with the best, as do his orchestral compositions.
: : : One of my favorite pieces of his is "Les Bergeries"(The sheep-Pens). There is an arrangement by Robert De Visee for theorbo, that totally glides!
: : Reusner
: I don't know much Couperin by I'm absolutely n away by "Les Barricades Mysterieuses" which a harpsichordist friend played for me. It's especially wonderful when register changes are used!

I was struck by your comments and want to say that I had the same experience with "Les Barricades Mysterieuses"--a friend played it for me several times on a harpsichord, back in 1996. It so enchanted me that the last time, waiting for the car that was to take me to the airport, I left my plane ticket on the living-room table and ended up having to buy a replacement ticket. It's nice to know somebody else feels the same way about this piece.
