: Some persons have asked me what is the best playing edition for Mendelssohn's organ sonatas. I recommend two: #1 G. Henle [ed. W. Stockmeier] and #2 Novello [ed. W. Little]. Unfortunately, both of these editions have now become terribly expensive. I paid $14 about 16 years ago for the Henle edition. That same volume will cost you about $40 now. The Novello editions run about $35 to $45 each. I do recommend using the Bornemann edition [ed. M. Dupre]. to help with fingering. Be careful of repeated notes in this edition as it was part of the french school to tie these notes. Mendelssohn originally published these works with Breitkopf and it still available.
