Pianists Carl Tait, an interior designer and Donald Shaw, a computer scientist, both of New York City, were awarded First Prize at the finals of the 3rd annual Northeastern Classical Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs held at the Faust Harrison Showroom in New York City on May 12, 2002. Both winners will receive a $1,000 First Prize plus a future recital date at the Faust Harrison showroom. Bronze medal winner was Lorraine Fuchs, a music conservatory administrator also from NYC. Shaw also won the audience award. In addition, "specialty prizes were awarded to pianists in the semi-final rounds, which occured at the Kosciuszko Foundation located at 15 E. 65th STreet, NYC. They included Mark Cannon (New York City) for "Outstanding Performance of a Baroque Work", John Gardecki (Middleburg, Virginia) for "Outstanding Performance of a Classical Work," Suzanne Fremon (NYC)for "Outstanding Performance of a Romantic Work" and Mark Gordon (Port Jefferson, NY) for "Outstanding Performance of a Modern Work".
