: I am searching for a book or guide which defines and describes the various proverbs captured in Breughel's Dutch Proverbs painting (I understand there are supposed to be about one hundred but I can't figure them out!). Any suggestions??
Hi,
You can find a list of the proverbs in: Le Miroir des Misericors in Les cahuers de Conques no. 2 March 1996. An article in French by Elaine Block where she is comparing proverbs in Bruegel's painting with the sam proverbs on misericords it might be helpful
