Both guns had the hair trigger. This was not unusual at that time. Burr did not know specifically about these guns (John Church's), but might well have guessed. Hamilton did not have the hair trigger set, and there is no evidence that Burr did either. A hair trigger did let you fire with greater ease, but decreased accuracy, so it was not a simple choice to make
