The Dred Scott case began in state court in Missouri, and the Missouri judge who presided in the case (actually 2 cases) was named Alexander Hamilton. In the second case, in 1848, a jury of 12 white Missouri men held the Scott family were free. This was overruled by the Missouri Supreme Court, and an action was filed in the Federal Courts which led to the infamous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Does anyone know if there was any relationship between this judge and the Hamilton who died at Burr's hand?
