Mates,
I have recently begun to delve into the work of Whitman and find the persona that he uses in Song Of Myself to be almost God-like in a pantheistic way. e.g. 52 I effuse my flesh in eddies . . . look for me under your bootsoles . . . i stop somewhere waiting for you.
I have read a bit about Whitman's life and found that he had several mystical experiences that led him to compose Song of Myself. Does anyone know Whitman's conception of God. I even heard that later in Whitman's life, that he wanted to start a religion based on Song of Myself.
If anyone could verify or clarify any of my literary wanderings, then I would greatly appreciate the gesture.
