I am a full blooded Objectivist, though certainly far from the most expert. The answer to your question about atheism is absolutely yes.I was somewhat of a vague deist myself until Rand gave me the final push into consistant thinking. And that is presicely her piont:that is to be an objectivist is to be comitted to true knowledge, which means to be comitted to reason as the only tool for gaining knowledge. There is nothing in reason or logic to invoke the existence of anything supernatural,ie god, angels, valhalla, reincarnation etc.. To Rand, dropping the conext of critical and rational thinking, even for one little bit of mysticism to which you are possibly emotionally attached, would be as destructive to your life(your mental processes)as suspending judgement in gravity just for one minute and having faith that you could fly when you leaped from a cliff. Atheism is not part of Objectivism for hatefull or spitefull reasons, but rather as merely a part of a consistant whole of rational thinking which Objectivism is. Hope I helped clarify the issue for you.: Hi...i am very interested in Ayn Rand's Objectivism but read that she was an adamant atheist...is atheism necessary to be a "true" follower of objectivism? Just wondering. Thanks for any input!
