Thanks Scarshoulder for your input! It was nice getting a reply, especially one as well thought out as yours. ~Ellen
: beatmuse,
: The simple answer to your question is Yes.
: The whole Truth is rarely that simple and is certainly not that simple in this case.
: I am new to Ayn Rand myself, having only discovered her at the Ayn Rand Objectivism Campfire Chat some time after 19 Apr 97. I went to the library to get Fountainhead by Ann Rand (I had mistaken her name all these years) and all they had was Anthem. I thought it was good, but not as good as WE by Zamyatin which was similar.
: Then I bought Fountainhead and it was outstanding and Atlas Shrugged was just as good. I am so grateful to the jollyroger.com and crew, Drake Raft, Becket Knottingham, and Elliot McGucken for having a web site where it is possible to find something like Ayn Rand for the first time. I don't know how I missed her before. I have read fairly widely.
: So much for my background. Now to further answer your question. I am a firm believer in the King James Version of the Bible and if you consider Gen 1:27, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; ..." and the part in the Fountainhead where Howard Roark is talking Steve Mallory into creating a figure for the Stoddard Temple of the Human Spirit, "If you understand the building, you understand what the figure must be. The human spirit. The heroic in man. The aspiration and the fulfillment, both. Uplifted in its quest--and uplifting by its own essence. Seeking God and finding itself. Showing that there is no higher reach beyond its own form.... You're the only one who can do it for me." Then you have Ayn Rand worshiping the image of God, so she could not see beyond that. But how far off was she? I contend that she was a lot closer than many religions, but that is just from my perspective. I would expect that nearly all Objectivists would reject the basis of my equality.
: At the web site www.aynrand.org/objectivism/Q1.htm you will find this quote from Ayn Rand, "To the readers of The Objectivist Forum, " The Objectivist Forum, Vol. 1 No. 1. "If you agree with some tenets of Objectivism, but disagree with others, do not call yourself an Objectivist; ..." I quess I fit into that catagory. But there are many movements within the Objectivist Movement so there may be a very slim chance.

: P.S. You asked for ANY input!
: : Hi...i am very interested in Ayn Rand's Objectivism but read that she was an adamant atheist...is atheism necessary to be a "true" follower of objectivism? Just wondering. Thanks for any input!
